Recycling & Donating
At Grunts Move Junk & Moving we understand that reusing and recycling is important to our world and to our customers and we take this responsibility seriously. On a day-to-day basis, we do our best to recycle and donate as much as possible.
We do our best to pull as much metal as possible out of the junk we remove. We have large roll-off metal containers at our shops that all of the metal goes into for proper recycling.
All tires, with or without rims, are pulled aside during our junk jobs and stored at one of our facilities. Once we have a trailer load we bring them all to a regional recycling facility. We recently partnered with Wheels for Warmth and we will be setting aside any tires with decent tread for donation to this local and charitable organization Wheels for Warmth collects and sells these usable tires to raise money to help with heating fuel costs for low income Vermonters.
Most electronics, especially those assembled with heavy metals, require special handling so those heavy metals (lead, mercury, etc.) don’t end up in landfills and then seep into the ground over time. We separate all these electronics at the job sites and, as with tires, store them at our warehouses until we have a full load to bring to various recycling centers around our region.
Recently we tested a program in which we collected items from jobs throughout the year and then held a large “garage” sale at our Williston, VT location. We ended up donating all proceeds to Blue Star Mothers of Vermont, whose mission is: “To support the Armed Forces of the United States of America and our Veterans. To honor those families whose children have died in service to our Country. To assist in the care of unsupported mothers who gave their children to the service of our Nation.”
In addition, we make an effort to donate what we can, when we can so as to keep as much as possible out of our landfills.
