Fall Home Cleaning/Decluttering List

Fall is the perfect time to go through and clean/declutter your home once more, to prepare it for the colder winter months ahead. In the next few weeks, you want to start thinking about putting away your patio furniture and closing up your windows. Use this list as a little reminder of things you can do over the next few weeks to get ready for fall and winter weather.


  • Wash exterior windows
  • Clean patio furniture/umbrellas and any outdoor children’s toys and store them away in a dry space
  • Clean out gutters and downspouts
  • Inspect your chimney
  • Powerwash your siding
  • Stowaway garden hoses
  • Protect any plants
  • Cover your grill and put it away in your garage or shed
  • Check caulking around windows and doors
  • Drain/ cover pool
  • Cover any outdoor fountains
  • Clean out the garage so you can fit your vehicle’s inside during the cold and snowy months
  • Rake leaves from yard


  • Clean public rooms that everyone uses first (living rooms, kitchen, entryways, bathrooms)
  • Clean from top to bottom
  • Bring out winter sheets and warm blankets
  • Wipe down walls, clean windows, wash curtains, wash carpets, wipe down baseboards
  • Disinfect door handles
  • Inspect furnace/replace filter
  • Wipe down cabinets and countertops in your kitchen
  • Check dryer exhaust/vent to make sure there isn’t any lint build up
  • Dust ceiling fans
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
